Product Search with Currency Symbols (Single-Character Words Followed by Numbers)

Learn why products with currency symbols or single-character terms followed by numbers may not appear in search results and how to fix this issue.

Written by Riyan

Overview

When a product name contains a single-character term, currency symbol, or currency code, the product may not appear in search results as expected.

This can occur because the search engine applies special handling to certain characters and currency-related terms, including ISO 4217 currency codes such as IDR and USD, as well as currency symbols or abbreviations such as L and TL.

As a result, product names containing these terms, especially when followed by numbers, may not be recognized correctly during a search.

For example, a product named "Indira L 1" is already available in the product list.

However, searching for "Indira L 1" in the POS may return no results.

Solution 1: Rename the Product (Recommended)

We recommend avoiding spaces between single-character terms and numbers.

For example:

  • Original name: Indira L 1

  • Recommended format: Indira L-1

  • Alternative format: Indira L1

Solution 2: Enable Full-Text Search V2

If you need to keep the original product name, you can enable Full-Text Search V2 under:

Settings → Advanced → Query → V2

After enabling V2, try searching for the original product name again.

Note: In some edge cases, product searches may still fail even after enabling Full-Text Search V2. One known example is case-sensitive search behavior, where a product named INDIRA L 1 may not appear when searching for indira l 1 (lowercase).

Other search scenarios may also be affected and have not yet been identified.

If you encounter this issue, try renaming the product using the recommended naming format described in Solution 1 above, such as INDIRA L-1 or INDIRA L1.
