[Tutorial Video] Base Unit and Multi Unit Product Types

As a retail business owner, you might offer types of products that come in multiple units of measurement for sale. One of the example is mineral water. For mineral water products, the available units are usually in cartons and pieces. Mineral water can be sold by individual pieces or in one cartons. Each cartons contains a fixed number of bottles for instance, 1 cartons (box) equals to 12 pieces (bottle).

During the sales process, if a customer wants to purchase individual pieces but there aren’t enough in stock, the system will automatically deduct stock from cartons to fulfill the required number of pieces based on the conversion ratio. This process is known as a one-level derivative form.

To create the Multiple UoM product type and to see how the multiple products type works, you can follow the steps below

I. Create Base Unit and Multi Unit Product Types Via UI

Step 1. Go to Product then Click Add

Add Product

Step 2. Create a Product with Two Variants (BOX and PCS)

Step 3. Then Set Up the Base Unit and Multi Unit

For the smallest unit, we can set it as the base unit. In this example, PCS is the smallest unit.

Units that reference another unit are called Multi Units. Only one Multi Unit can reference each Base Unit, meaning the relationship between them is strictly one-to-one. In this example, we use BOX which is linked to PCS as the Base Unit.

Option

Description

Type

For the variant product type, you can select either Multi Unit or Base Unit.

Reference Unit

Reference Unit refers to the base unit that the Multi Unit is connected to or calculated from.

Ratio

The value of the Reference Unit. So, 1 BOX will be recognized as 10 PCS.

Notes:

In 1 box of Mie Instan, there are 10 pcs of Mie Instan. So, we input 10 in the ratio column.

Step 1. Go To Products Menu and Click on Import Button

Import product

Step 2. Download the Product CSV Template

Step 3. Open the Downloaded Template File

Note:

  • Fill the column with the smallest unit using Base_Unit, and for multiple units use Multi_Unit.

  • You can link the reference multi-unit to the desired variant by specifying the variant or product code.

  • The Ratio column for smaller unit is filled with the number of smaller units in one larger unit, while the Ratio for the larger unit is left blank.

Step 5. Return to the Product Import Page, Click Browse Files, and Then select the file you created

Step 6. Then Click Next
