As a retail business owner, you might offer types of products that come in multiple units of measurement for sale. One of the example is mineral water. For mineral water products, the available units are usually in cartons and pieces. Mineral water can be sold by individual pieces or in one cartons. Each cartons contains a fixed number of bottles for instance, 1 cartons (box) equals to 12 pieces (bottle).
During the sales process, if a customer wants to purchase individual pieces but there aren’t enough in stock, the system will automatically deduct stock from cartons to fulfill the required number of pieces based on the conversion ratio. This process is known as a one-level derivative form.
To create the Multiple UoM product type and to see how the multiple products type works, you can follow the steps below
I. Add Multiple UOM Products Via UI
Step 1. Go to Product, then Click Add
Step 2. Create a Standard Product Type With 2 Product Variant and Save it
Step 3. Search for Product Variant and Click it
Step 4. Edit the Variant Product Type and Set The Multiple UoM Ratio
Notes:
On this occasion, we try to make 2 variants. That is the purchase of 1 piece and the purchase of 1 box.
In the standard version, in 1 box of mineral water, there are 12 pieces of water bottle. So, in the Multi UoM tab, we input 12 in the ratio column.
II. Add Multiple UOM Products via CSV Import
You can also add the StandardWithParent type of product from your CSV file just by adding 3 columns labeled "Type", "Parent", and "Ratio". Here is how you can do it.
Step 1. Go To Products Menu, and Click on Import Button
Step 2. Download the Product Template
Step 3. Open the Downloaded Template File
Step 4. Fill the Product Information and Add 3 More Column
How the template looks like
Then change the template example according to your product detail information
And add this 3 column: Type, Parent, and Ratio.
Note:
Fill the Type column with "Standard" for the largest unit and "MultipleUoM" for the smaller units.
Fill the Parent column for the smaller unit with the variant code of the larger unit, and leave it blank for the larger unit's Parent column.
The Ratio column for smaller unit is filled with the number of smaller units in one larger unit, while the Ratio for the larger unit is left blank.
Step 5. Return to the Product Import Page, Click Browse Files, and Then select the file you created
